The Kilbride Story began on January 21st, 1909 when the Brigidine

Sisters took possession of the Albert Park Buildings from the Carmelite Fathers. In that month Kilbride commenced with five students, one desk and one teacher's rostrum! By the end of the year, the place had blossomed into a thriving school with 35 students, desks and equipment as needed! The Founding Principal of the school was Mother Evangelist Bartley. She was Principal from 1909 until 1946. The school continued to flourish until population changes caused a drop in numbers. In 1977 the school closed as a Secondary College, much to the sadness of all involved, especially the active Kilbride Past Pupils' Association, which had existed since 1924 and is still functioning today in its support for Brigidine missions and ministries.

The Kilbride premises were then renovated to function as an adult education centre with residential accommodation. The Centre served the needs of the Brigidine Sisters and others across Australia for the purposes of study and renewal programs, general updating of teachers and other adult education activities for another decade or so.

In the late 1980's Kilbride Centre housed the Brigidine Family Ministry Project and later the Brigidine Secondary Schools' Council. In addition, over more recent years a community of Brigidine Sisters lived in the Centre and offered hospitality to conference groups.

Now, after its December 5th 1999 opening, Kilbride begins another era:

It is an ecumenical centre for spirituality and personal development - still in service of the people!
